Walking Dead: humanity in the face of a crisis

Home quarantine is now reached a month and more than a month people's daily activities have come to standstill. I think non one can find a appropriate time to watvh a TV series like Walking Dead and relate to its thematic strands of viral diseases, selfish human emotions and the world at its end wits. The series is scintilating for its thematic repreentation of human fear and guilt in a crisis like coronavirus where humanity and civilisation comes to a point where you have to make serious decision to compromise your desire to live and survive. Any literary work that carries the theme of survival catches my attention real quick I enjoy to watch people how venture  to survivie no matter the principles, ideologies you choose to believe. In that sense, chaos are perfect opportunities to learn new lessons: human beings have a tendency to be complacent and they reach their optimum level or the potential level when they are presented with a disaster. The same theory applies to the artificial division and differences created by society: the chaos like coronavirus does not factor social status, education, religion or any characteristic when it wants to strike human beings. The other point the series questions hard is the theme of hope

Garasarapa: an attempt to bridge East and West

Jayanntha Chandrasiri's latest movie Garasarapa deals with a rather  old theme, yet from a fresher perspective. Chandrasiri examines Sri Lankan mythical exorcist practises from an unsual perspective: the perspective of Sri Lankan Catholic identity. He juxtaposes the Sinhala exorcist practises associated with Kalu Kumaraya (black prince, a demon believed to be possessed with unmarried females) against Christian culture. Vidya, the female lead in the film seeks the support of a Catholic priest when the black prince possesses her. The film starts with her journey to the church where she meets Sadares Edirisinghe. Sadares comes with his ailing cousin as his gaurdian. Both Sadares and Vidya fall in love and ironically it is their immense love that defeats the negative influence of the black prince. Handagama' s Asandhimitta: A Paradox within a Paradox

Asoka Handagama's Asandhimitta is an enigma to the audience even after the last minute of the movie. I desperately wanted to watch the movie again and perhaps if possible backwards. Asadhimitta is a genuine research in Sri Lankan film industry. What does Handagama tries to hint at the end of the movie? How does Handagama play with the book and its content to make a movie ? Is Handagama succesful ? What genre does this film fit into ? There are so many questions that need to be answered. To be honest I have not read the novel and, therefore, Handagama is taken for granted here for a just representation of the themes in the novel.
