Problem with Sri Lankan Education System

When I was in primary school, my friends used to tell that they wanted to be doctors, engineers and pilots... I never wanted to be a doctor, engineer or even a pilot ( does not mean that I disrespect these professions, but I simply did not want to be. A little later the list go expanded: lawyer, cricketer, or even a lecturer ( I also wanted to be a cricketer but more than I wantrd to be a cricket commentator and even now I have that dream. I used to imitate all the star commentators commentaries and that is why I think I fell in love with English language. I imagine that I was in Sydney Cricket Ground or Kettarama Ground and I bowled a delivery imitating Brett Lee, Glenn McGrath or Lasith Malinga and I also became the batsman who faced the delivery. To make things more energetic and live I used to give a live commentary for every action of bowler, batsman or the fielder. It was a quite experience of multitasking and I played complete matches between countries. I even ran between the wickets, waved a stump here and there and bowled deliveries using a tennis ball or whatever  the objects that I thought to be the size of an actual leather ball (often it was a potato or a big onion😂😂😂😂😂).My parents and my brother thought I was insane but inside my head I was enjoying the game and literally I was living the game. Even now, 25 year old me sometimes use the broom as a bat and use any circular objects as a ball and play my own cricket and people whom I am intimate with know my motor skills now and then🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Enough with my cricketing adventures. This is what I wanted to tell. I believe that education is not just teaching a point to a learner or a learner just learning passively from a teacher. A real classoom should be like a theatre: a place ideas and opinions thrown at one another and a critical space where everyone including the teacher polishes their analytical skills. Education is simply based on angles or perspectives. Education  is about learning 1+1= 2 as well 1 plus 1 is 11 or 1+1 is 10 (binary digits). The learner has to be first taught that he/she is taught one way of looking at something and based on that conceptualisation the student should be encouraged to analyse things. The definition and areas in knowledge is getting expanded day by day and knowledge and there are thousands of avenues a student can  and should take. I think the more educated parents will also let their children select whatever the thing they like to do; they might just ask their kids to whatever their good at. It is just a matter of setting your own standards high in whatever the thing you do. The educated parents will back up their kids no matter how foolish their kids' dreams or ideas seem to be. The educated parents will also make their kids realise that a good electrician, a carpenter or even a good bus driver is much as importnat as white collar jobs. They will teach their kids that your job is a matter of showing your professionlism whatever the thing they are doing. I think then will be able to hear responses like "I want to be a good writer, I want to be a good screenwriter, I want to be a good microbiologist, I want to be a good bookkeeper, marine biologist etc" when they are asked what they wanted to do in the future.
