The new resolution

The people who have made a real difference are the people who really enjoy what they are doing and doing what they are enjoying...

I have made a promise to myself that I would record everything that happens at my workplace. Perhaps when I will be free or when I have time, I will flesh out this notes and publish it as a book.

Working at DELT UoK is kind of my dreams. I always wanted to work as a temporary lecturer. However, that is not today's topic. I would like to write about testing and evaluation in English language courses and specially in TESL degree programme.
I have learnt two new concepts today. The first is the bell curve and the second on is validity of the test. Both of them are to do with testing and evaluation. In layman's terms validity of the test refers to the performance of the student including that of the teacher. It means that if your students collectively fail to achieve the learning outcomes it reflects your own poor performance as a teacher.
I also realised that a good essay type answer is something that is really rare thing. One of the major criticicism levelled at humanities is the subjectivity of the marker or the examiner.

Having mentioned all these standard methods in testing and evaluation, I really like to juxtapose this example with this. One of my colleagues shared this experience with me. Once she had a problem with her teacher since she felt that she was cornered by her always. One day, the entire class was asked to demontrate their acting skills imititating natural movements (i.e. a dead leaf falling off the tree. I am sure there has to be a teachnical term I wish  i knew) So our friends did not feel like doing the activity since if she was forced to do sonething likr this she became stick. So now the entire class was energetically writhing, twisting and spinning: some were imitating the movement of a snake some were dying some were fainting etc. Our friend did not do a thing and the teacher did not also care. The teacher must have deducted marks for less of enthusiasm or lack of cooperation or something like that. However, what inspired me the most was this. "YOU KNOW IF SHE BOTHERED ME TO ASK WHAT I WAS DOING OR WHY I DID NOT PERFORM, I WOULD HAVE SAID I AM  A DEAD SNAKE. 😃😃😃😃😃
