The difference between a good house and a bad house

 The online exams are a popular these days. May higher and tertiary level institutions have switched to online exams to continue the academic calendar. Sri Lankan schools have not yet done online exams and soon the students will also have to face online tests. 

Assessments are a crucial part of any academic process. The assessments stems from the need to test whether the learner has acquired the necessary learning outcomes. Assessments help to assess the validity and relevance of the learning process.

Students in Sri Lankan schools can get better grades or marks if their retension skills are high. The ability to regurgitate whatever they have learnt at the class or from the teacher is the hallmark of any good Sri Lankan student. Tjere might be exceptions, but more or less there is a common understanding that if your memory is stupendous, you can easily score high marks at any examination. 

Advanced Level examination seems to be a different case to thr point illustrated above. Even though the similar learning materials, teaching methods are used in both O/L and A/L classes, there seems to be a clear gap between A

Garasarapa: an attempt to bridge East and West

Jayanntha Chandrasiri's latest movie Garasarapa deals with a rather  old theme, yet from a fresher perspective. Chandrasiri examines Sri Lankan mythical exorcist practises from an unsual perspective: the perspective of Sri Lankan Catholic identity. He juxtaposes the Sinhala exorcist practises associated with Kalu Kumaraya (black prince, a demon believed to be possessed with unmarried females) against Christian culture. Vidya, the female lead in the film seeks the support of a Catholic priest when the black prince possesses her. The film starts with her journey to the church where she meets Sadares Edirisinghe. Sadares comes with his ailing cousin as his gaurdian. Both Sadares and Vidya fall in love and ironically it is their immense love that defeats the negative influence of the black prince. Handagama' s Asandhimitta: A Paradox within a Paradox

Asoka Handagama's Asandhimitta is an enigma to the audience even after the last minute of the movie. I desperately wanted to watch the movie again and perhaps if possible backwards. Asadhimitta is a genuine research in Sri Lankan film industry. What does Handagama tries to hint at the end of the movie? How does Handagama play with the book and its content to make a movie ? Is Handagama succesful ? What genre does this film fit into ? There are so many questions that need to be answered. To be honest I have not read the novel and, therefore, Handagama is taken for granted here for a just representation of the themes in the novel.
