The Longest Night

Tick tock tick tock Time passes But not for me Every second is an hour, and every minute is a day. I have not asked anything from dewiyo for a long time, BUT I do now, Ane please please please... This would be my last, No more complaints, For a second, Everything stands still, And one thing matters. Reason was not my friend, Logic was not my teacher, Only one thought, One wish, "Everyone has a reason to pray". This will be the longest night of my life, No matter what, Everything has become blurry, for the night is long. Mata yatha niyamputtam ayusa ekaputta manurakke; Evampi sabbabhutesu,  Manasambhava ye aparimanam May this night end soon !

2104; a dystopian, apocalyptic short story in commemoration of 2004 tsunami victims

2104 James Vince was a good person. Yes, there was no argument about that. Vince was a good person. He did not go to church every Sunday. But, he was a good man with a good heart. He loved two things dearly: his family and physics. Physics was his first love. But, that changed when he met Clara. He met her at the Cambridge University where he was finishing his doctoral thesis on nuclear plants. Clara was completing a degree in marketing. Vince became a professor at a local university in Birmingham. Clara too found a job. They got married soon after their graduation and settled in Birmingham. He could not ask more the day he became a father. Katrina, their first child was a sweet angel. For three years, two of them meant the whole world for him. Things changed when he became a father of two more children. Twins this time: Alex and Harry. After twins were born, Vince was forced to find a lucrative job. Then, he had to make a serious decision. Clara had resigned from her job to ...

Handagama' s Asandhimitta: A Paradox within a Paradox

Asoka Handagama's Asandhimitta is an enigma to the audience even after the last minute of the movie. I desperately wanted to watch the movie again and perhaps if possible backwards. Asadhimitta is a genuine research in Sri Lankan film industry. What does Handagama tries to hint at the end of the movie? How does Handagama play with the book and its content to make a movie ? Is Handagama succesful ? What genre does this film fit into ? There are so many questions that need to be answered. To be honest I have not read the novel and, therefore, Handagama is taken for granted here for a just representation of the themes in the novel. (Having said that I totally believe that a director should have a liberal right to do adapt the original text to his/her will).            In the first place, the end of the movie is a shocking revelation to the audience. I never imagined that the two male characters are younger and older version of the same character. (Either I am...
Starlight By chandula Arsakulasuriya Unce upon a time I dont know what century What decade AD or BC There was a son and father They were in a country I dont know what country Perhaps by the sea Perhaps by the woods Or may be in the country Or the city It was simply noon The son and his father were Looking at the distant The Father said suddenly "The sun is s star, you know ?" How come the sun is A star? Asked the wise boy Stars come at night You are fooling me Nope, said the truthful Father The sun is a star Birth of life There are billions of them The sun is just a star "Hmm" said the confused son So this is not sunlight This is but starlight? Asked the clever boy Father was aghast But he managed to smile And on on on He smiled and he patted his son Yes, you are right It is just starlight It is strange father Why ? Asked the father Now it does not make sense for me I need sunlight not sta...
I recently watched the movie The Matrix. I had watched some parts sometime ago but I failed to understand the concept or the plot. This time I watched it at a strech from the beginning to the end. I could not take my mind away from even for a second after watching it. To me The Matrix is a seperate discipline that you can talk for hours. Every scene carries something to think and you can hit the rewind button literally thousands of times. In very simple terms The Matrix is buddhist philosophy. Buddhism teaches us that the world is full of signals (sanskara). The human mind is The Matrix. Passa or the feeling is perceived by the human mind when viggana (I like to think this as a signal) is cordinated by an external object and an internal object. The external objects are the projections in human mind  when they are transmitted through signals which are collected by internal objects (sensory organs such as nose, eyes, tongue, ears and body). So when we see a red apple, do we really se...
