Beyond the pitch

 Watching the famous Korean TV series Squid Game was a horrible experience since I was forced to draw parallels between the Squid Game and the modern society. 

I cannot write anything at a stretch. If I ever produce a meaniful and productive written piece, I need a considerable amount of time to work on my writitng skills and this would require me to go back on forth between writing and editing. I am a very slow writer. I need at least two, three hours to write 200, 300 words. I believe in process writing and I think people should be give freedom and space to write their ideas at their own speed to create meaningful content. 

 If someone asks you what gives you strength and courage to survive, what would be your answer? You might say love, hope, family, relationships, professional goals and academic goals. But in my opinion, courage and determination stem from bad, bitter experieces which shape your character. The idea our dark, bitter thoughts will drive us crazy is not a permanent phenomenon. In my opinion, dark thoughts function as a signal that would tell you something is not right in the system. You need to change something. Most of the times, I experiences negative thoughts as a result of my clinging into something obsessively. I do not think positive obsessions exist in this world. Too much dependence on anything is detrimental to your personal as well professional growth. The ability to quit sometimes gives you the power and strength to take responsibility of your own actions and make decisions that will not harm yourself in the long run. Are you not satisfied with your current job? Are you dreaming of your promotion? Do you think you don't get paid enough or you deserve more than you already get? Frustration and disappointment havr become a common syndrome among the youth (including me as well) and young generation seems to be making complaint either of this or that. Why is this? The cometition in the job market is crazy today. Undergraduates seem to do multiple degree simultaneouly add lines to their CVs- this qualification that qualification. They (we most accurately) seem to be in a conundrum of their their. I have seen people who work 16, 18 hours a day to get to their next promotion. They seem to get motivation from the next salary increment or thr next position  and they are powered by their ambitions to work like maniacs. I have no question with working 16 18 hours a day but I would simply like to cite Mark Manson:

 What do you need to remember love ?  A flower, a tree, the moon or the sun, or perhaps MOONLIGHT????  A word, a metaphor- a tree, Lily in the Silent Valley, a simile, an adjective, a nickname, a sentence, a simple phrase or a letter?  A feeling? Jealousy, anger, frustration or is it selfishness A colour, an emoji 😇, a place, a building?  What do you need to remember love? What do you miss the most?  The online exams are a popular these days. May higher and tertiary level institutions have switched to online exams to continue the academic calendar. Sri Lankan schools have not yet done online exams and soon the students will also have to face online tests.  Assessments are a crucial part of any academic process. The assessments stems from the need to test whether the learner has acquired the necessary learning outcomes. Assessments help to assess the validity and relevance of the learning process. Students in Sri Lankan schools can get better grades or marks if their retension skills are high. The ability to regurgitate whatever they have learnt at the class or from the teacher is the hallmark of any good Sri Lankan student.  The past couple of years have seen a different shape in human civilisation. The speed which human being has tried to run has come to a sudden standstill with the pandemic and things that we took for granted have such a value now ; a walk with your friend, a trip with your friends or at least your freedom to see each other's face or even breathe. The mobility is no longer a comfort as it used to be. I do not want to talk or write about the travel restrictions imposed due to Covid-19, but my being circling back to Covid-19 proves how it has become a shared common reality in everyone's life.      What I want write about is  true friendship. But why do we need to bother about friendship or friends during a gloomy period like this? What advantages or what benefits a friend can bring to you in a trying time like this? Can they feed you?
