Walking Dead: humanity in the face of a crisis

Home quarantine is now reached a month and more than a month people's daily activities have come to standstill. I think non one can find a appropriate time to watvh a TV series like Walking Dead and relate to its thematic strands of viral diseases, selfish human emotions and the world at its end wits. The series is scintilating for its thematic repreentation of human fear and guilt in a crisis like coronavirus where humanity and civilisation comes to a point where you have to make serious decision to compromise your desire to live and survive. Any literary work that carries the theme of survival catches my attention real quick I enjoy to watch people how venture  to survivie no matter the principles, ideologies you choose to believe. In that sense, chaos are perfect opportunities to learn new lessons: human beings have a tendency to be complacent and they reach their optimum level or the potential level when they are presented with a disaster. The same theory applies to the artific...

The Importance of a National Education Policy

The Sri Lankan national education policy suffers from serious lapses from its very beginning: there is a rat race among the parents to admit their children to a well reputed national school leading to a loophole of  endless crimes varying from forged documents to sexual bribery. The next chaotic juncture is in grade five where the children are excruciatingly penalised if they fail at the government scholarship examination. The O/L and A/L s are a also bit of a hectic period in a student's life in Sri Lanka. In addition to the serious lapses of Sri Lankan education system including parroting/cramming exams and procrastination at the end of each term, lack of institutional space to think freely and criticise the subject matter, what seems to be the darkest of the dark errors seems to be the lack of guidance given at school to pursue their education. The world is not what it used to be thirty twenty or at least ten years ago. To be a doctor if you do bio, an engineer from math classe...

Being faithful to what you do!

People always expect you to write a novel if you read for an English degree! If it is a Honours degree the expectations are pretty high! Writing a novel or even a poem needs a lot of time! When I was a child I had a passion to publish two three novels in a single year!!! Reading a big book was also a big dream of mine. I used to gaze at people who were reading classic novels in trains and buses 😀😀😀😀😀(I always have this crazy desire to look at people's face and know what is going on  inside their head and what they are feeling..  Are they happy, sad, tired, excited or whatnot? 😅😅😅😅😅)But now I realise that fiction and literature altogether is a far more advanced or complex  than publishing two three novels in a calendar year. I always wanted to be a publisher one day. I also wonder why people do not have the same expectation of graduates who read for  a Sinhala degree???? I think Sinhala and English are not considered two langauges in this island nation. It ...
